Kharkiv region is situated on the north-east of Ukraine and is bordered:
- on the north and north-east – with Belgorod region of Russian Federation,
- on the east – with Lugansk region,
- on the south-east – with Donetsk,
- on the south-west – with Dnepropetrovsk,
- on the west and north-west – with Poltava and Sumy region.
Distance from Kharkiv to the capital of Ukraine – Kiev:
